Hollywood / Awards Night Theme Party

This theme is perfect for your Hollywood and movie addict barkada. Showbiz is such a very colorful world and no doubt most people get hooked on updates about the colorful lives and out-of-this-world antics of celebrities. If you and your friends are always posted on the latest Hollywood gossip – perhaps on who got arrested for DUI this time, or who got the most Oscars this year, you may want to experience how it’s like to be on the limelight at least for one night. Make this come true and plan a Hollywood or Awards Night Theme party for your debut instead!

After you’ve sent out all invites to your debut party, call your guests one-by-one to confirm their attendance. Ask them what celebrity or who they will be at your party. Make a checklist so that there is no duplication of a celebrity to be represented.

This party theme aims to make all your guests enjoy. And so, the following are some tips on how to make your Hollywood / Awards Night party a blast and truly a night to remember!

Party Props:

  • Be sure to have a red carpet welcome your guests at the entrance. This will make them feel special. Remember, it’s not everyday that everyone gets to feel like a star!
  • Have a lot of paparazzi spread out in your venue. Just like you, your friends are camwhores, who can pose pretty (and crazy) in front of the cam. If you only have 1 – 2 photographers, ask some friends to bring external flashes or extra cameras and have extra people click on them to get the effect that your event is getting full media coverage!
  • Make a “wall” with your name or the title of your party on it. This wall with a designed background is usually where celebs pose for photographers and get interviewed during events.
  • You know you aren’t selfish, and you want your amigas to enjoy the way you are having fun. So why not prepare some funky games for them? You can play “Guess the Celeb” where you print out a picture of celebrities and have your guests guess their identities. You can make it more difficult by asking a different question such as who the celebrity’s current beau is, or what film he or she has appeared in.
  • Put the limelight upon your guests. Announce a contest where you get to be the judge of who has the most creative outfit or who has the best make-up.
  • Days before the party or when you invite them, tell your guests that you will be having a celebrity look-a-like contest during your party. Those who may win this contest either look like the celeb or dress or act like him / her. Make up is also a huge factor in getting to look like the stars, thus, an announcement beforehand is important so that your guests can prepare.
  • Be proud of your favorite actors. Why not make a standee of 2 or more of your favorite stars and of yourself too of course, and put them on every corner of the venue? This way, there will be more photo opportunities at your party. They will surely have fun with all the eye-candies you will be putting around.

Post Party Props:

  • Aside from the Oscar trophy shaped keychain or stuffed toy you gave your guests as tokens, you may want to walk that extra mile to thank them for coming by sending thank-you cards.
  • Since your guests are all internet savvy, you can just email blast your thank you message, and put a link at the bottom where they can view the pictures at the party. This will make them excited to view the link and recall the fun that was your debut party.
  • Do not only display pictures. Put some interesting captions in it, just like it was being covered by a newspaper. Refer to your favorite showbiz magazine for the tone of event coverages. Caption your photos in such a way that the people in it are all famous!

Of course it’s still your party so do not forget to enjoy yourself as well! Tweak the traditional debut programme. Instead of the conventional 18 roses, gifts and wishes, you can do something that is still in-sync with your Hollywood theme.

  • Have your friends dedicate 18 movies to you along with a creative explanation and a corresponding wish.
  • For your 18 roses, choose only movie theme songs to dance to such as “My Heart Will Go On”, —
  • For your 18 presents, have your guests compare you to a celebrity or a movie character, which may have led them to give you a particular gift.

The Hollywood / Awards Night theme is great only if your guests are game to participate in your contests and are really willing to dress up for the party. If your friends are all outgoing types and party animals, you won’t have a hard time with your gimmicks. But of course, encouragement also plays an important role to get your party to be successful. You wouldn’t know who among your friends you will be helping to discover something about herself!

    1. Hi Khamz,

      Event stylists usually are the ones that deal with stage decorations and effects that have a certain theme to it. They know specifically where to get the materials to create the look that you want for your party and they might have done that certain theme so they may have what you’re looking for in their inventory. I’ve searched on the internet for ready made stuff and I have yet to find a supplier that is based in the Philippines. I do know however of party planners who will really make your theme possible. There are those party planners for kiddie birthdays who usually make cutouts made of styro or cardboards for stage decors which I think will be perfect for you. If you are not planning on hiring an event stylist or party planner, you could make those cutouts yourself. You can find raw materials in Divisoria, like styro and cardboard.       For a Hollywood theme, you can choose theme songs from famous Hollywood movies. You can go theatrical and have a blast with Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend or go melancholy with Somewhere over the Rainbow. Pick a song that will best mirror your personality and the mood you want to convey. If you want drama to your grand entrance, go for slower songs. If you want a more fun and funky vibe, go for faster songs. Have a pick from our grand entrance song list. Hope this helps and happy birthday.

      Try Tabora Street in Divisoria. This Street offers many raw materials as well as souvenirs used in events! You can also try Raon in Quiapo (just ask around) or V. Mapa Street cor. Magsaysay Blvd (near SM Centerpoint).

      That’s a cool idea! However, I don’t think you should name the 18 wishes as “nominees for best supporting actors and actresses” because your friends might feel that they’re just second best or your second choice. Maybe you can do with “18 nominees for best in directing or best in screenplay… etc..” Or any other category besides “supporting”. That’s just my opinion 🙂 I know you’ll do well with your party.     im really dreaming of a hollywood inspired debut.
    i will be 18 by October 2011 i know its too early to prepare
    but my mom is bugging me cause she’s not here in the country
    and she’ll just come here 1 week before my debut
    so i am the only one to prepare for it
    i wanted to know what colors are good for hollywood inspired debut
    and where can i buy things and ornaments for decorations

      Sorry for not replying sooner. Anyway, Hollywood Awards Night theme is filled with glitz and glamour so the predominating colors usually are gold or silver for extra sparkle. A combination of gold and black (elegant) would be nice or silver and white (shimmery) is okay too. Ask your guests to come in their finest but make sure that your gown or dress would standout. Usually Divisoria is the right place to go with regards to props to be used in your stage and decors. Plan your stage design and then go to divi and canvass materials. You may find this link useful.       18 Roses would be perfect for a Vampire themed (Twilight-inspired) debut because the Red Rose is one of the most dominant elements in vampire movies. 18 Candles are perfect too! I suggest you don’t replace 18 Candles because they’re the most visible elements in vampire films.

      For your invites, I suggest you send wax-sealed old-school enveloped invitations

      Maybe you can also splatter red paint all over your letter, suggesting that it’s blood and it’s time to gather all your blood sucking friends — something like that.

  8. hi, im planning for a hollywood theme party for my debut for January 2011, and my problem is that what are some 18 titles that can be use aside from18 roses, candles & presents?and im planning also to have fashion show but may i ask if this is appropriate for this theme?
    can you give suggestions for tokens and some games that can make my party unique. thanks! 🙂

      Of course it’s okay to do a fashion show since your party theme is also all about flaunting your outfits. But it doesn’t have to be a “fashion show”, instead you and your friends can just casually do a catwalk around where there is a red carpet. Anyway, since Hollywood is also all about awards and movies, you can substitute 18 Awards or 18 Statues for your 18 candles (where each will make a speech on why this award was given to you, etc).

      For your 18 candles, you can have 18 Clappers where they would say “Lights, camera, action” before they make a speech.

      You can also have 18 Awards to replace your 18 Treasures. Your 18’s will have to think of this. For instance, Award for being Miss Congeniality or Miss Talent, or Award for being a very good friend, with reasons why they chose it.) Make sure no award is duplicated. Have Oscar statuettes as props for a total award-winning moment.

      For 18 roses, try 18 Movies / Films, 18 Movie Theme Songs or 18 Best Musical Scores where you will be dancing to their respective soundtracks. Songs to be played will be dependent on the movies that you pick. You could also go for the blockbuster movies from the year you were born up to present (making 18 movies in total) and dance to their theme song.

      You can also substitute your 18 Roses with 18 Toasts to celebrate your 18 years on earth. The guy will first make a toast, have a speech, then dance with you.

      Just for fun, before each dance, pose with your 18 Roses partner in front of a number of extras (actors) posing as paparazzi for the effect that you are a Hollywood star being followed by media men. Of course this can also serve as a photo opportunity for the both of you, so have your photographer take your “stolen” picture as well before dancing with your partner. It would be fun to think of different poses beforehand so that each picture you have with your 18 Roses has a different character from the other.

  9. Hi! I’m having my debut this year and my motif is blue/turquoise. I’m having a difficulty to choose my theme. I’m thinking of a fashion show and Hollywood theme since we’re all photoholic and act like artists. Would it be nice? If it is, how could I make it possible with just minimal budget?       Well since the Red Carpet / Hollywood theme is just like a fashion show, in which celebs showcase their gowns, you can integrate fashion show into that theme. Make the Hollywood theme your main theme then perhaps just add a portion where your friends get to model their outfits. If you have 18 wines, treasures, etc. have your friends do a catwalk first before making a speech.

      An important element here would be the red carpet. Just get a venue that doesn’t rip off your budget then make sure it’s big enough so you can have your red carpet there. Everything else can be just as simple. You can actually do it in your house if it’s big to hold a party. Then acquire a red carpet. Your invitations should say that your guests should come in their best Red Carpet Attire because a prize awaits the person with the best suit / gown. Make sure your guests look their best because your guests’ outfit will set the mood for the party.

      Mixing hollywood and runway is fine. After all, fashion and entertainment are inseparable. You can have a miniature trophy as a giveaway and movie ticket perhaps as an invitation. You also need to have a runway on which you and your friends can do catwalk. For your 18s, you can choose from 18 Movies, 18 Awards, 18 Shopping bags (for 18 Treasures), 18 Movie Quotes.

    1. Hi Roxie,

      First you have to know what theme you like. It will be easier to replace the 18s once you have a theme in mind. Here are some samples of 18s replacements. As for the theme, it really depends on what the debutante wants. It depends on your personality and what you want your friends to know you by. Are you a party girl? or would you more or less like something simple and laid back. Do you love anything glamorous? are you a big fan of a tv series? are you into music? what kind? these are usual things your party may exude if you pick a theme that mirrors your personality which will make your party totally unique.       The best entrance song you can use is your favorite! 😉 But if you want to stick within your party theme, then I suggest to look for a sound track from one of your favorite movies. You can also check out our suggested list of grand entrance songs.

      What do you mean? If you mean you don’t know what to write on the invitation card so everybody will “rsvp”, you can just put there “R.S.V.P.” then the name of the contact and the number. Or somethng like “Please confirm your attendance” or “We’ll be happy if you can call us if you can come” or something similar 🙂
